Oklahoma Turnpike Authority
Motorists can enter Oklahoma at the Texas border on one turnpike and exit into Missouri on another one, thanks to the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA). The agency is responsible for administering and maintaining Oklahoma's 10 turnpikes and associated infrastructure, including the PIKEPASS program, an electronic toll collection system. Its revenue comes from tolls, a percentage of turnpike concession sales, and fuel excise tax. About 40% of revenue comes from out of state drivers. The OTA, created in 1947, is governed separately from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, the state's main highway agency.
